I was Thinking instead of buying a home (that is already made) that maybe I should just build my own home. So I was wondering does anyone know how long it takes to build a house and if any of you have build your own home what did you need? also my 2nd question is what is better or cheaper to buy a home that is already made or to build your own from scratch?

If you do the work yourself, I would estimate a year.

If you hire a builder, then around 5-7 months.

Does anyone know of any websites with free bathroom and kitchen design plans and ideas? (especially ideas for small spaces)

eevn with the websties available you need to be clear in your mind what you want and how do you want to dress up your kitchen and bathroom as every design and style is personal and individual..

make sure to read tips and article and decide what you want as every area is different in size and one thing that looks good else where might not look good in your area too..

they are 10 and 11 years old…what would you recommend that is going to last yet inexpensive.
I was thinking of a Berber carpet…its stain resistance and Lowes’s has it for 66 cent a sq. ft

We had Berber carpet in the kids room that lasted at least 10 years. Kids, dogs, washing machine overflow, the whole bit and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it again. Especially at that price.

is the money better for interior design? i understand the differences between the two: designer must be licensed, can change structures, etc., but which is a more lucrative career path?

Your Interior Design Degree is the one that will make you more money, anyone can be a decorator, teachers and professionals will tell you that a decorator is someone with good taste, a designer is better educated and can do more.

for the sake of argument lets say the house i want to build is identical to the house i would potentially buy. Same property value, Same plot of land, Same materials, everything.

Not only do you have all the cost of the bricks, mortar and fittings but also please do not forget about the drawing of the plans, planing permission, surveys and the fees, cost of the ground and site amenities, link up of the site to the main water, sewage, electric and gas supplies.
With a pre-built house this has already been done.

I would like to hire an interior designer to help me design my home. The furniture throughout my home is high quality and is traditional in style. I may need to add or replace very few furniture items, but seriously need need help with color selection. How much should I expect to pay for color consultation for a 2 story traditional home?
