Is it a good idea to allow your twelve year old daughter to design her bathroom?

Posted by admin on Aug 28, 2010 under bathroom design

My daughter is 12 turning 13 next month. She shares a bathroom with her 7 yr old sister is it good idea to let her design it if so tips on how to make sure it is appropriate.
She despises Justin Bierber the most she’d do would be paint, decorate(AG dools/Hot pink paint maybe)

I think since the 13yo and the 7yo share it, then they should both have the opportunity to decorate it. YOU, be the parent, of course, has the final say. It will be a good project for both of them to work out. TEAMWORK!

Does Anybody know of an free online 3d bathroom design program or even a downloadable freeware program ?

Website showing some sample 3D outputs:

Website showing 3D output with some basic interaction – layout pre-set:

Website demonstrating perspective in room design:

Website that uses click and fill techniques for wall/floor design, allows selection of a large number of templates for the room:

Awesome website that allows you to create 2D design plans and then view the room in 3D. A lot of personalisation options available:

Website that uses 2D planning but is a good reference for our “cart” functionality. Items can be added to the cart and total is tallied.

What would a Spanish design look like for a bathroom?

Posted by admin on Jun 5, 2010 under bathroom design

The ceilings are very high.

Is that the theme for the rest of the house as well? The baths should be in balance with the other rooms, so if they have a Spanish flair, then yes.. it would look nice.

Can you see any problems with this kitchen/bathroom design?

Posted by admin on Jun 2, 2010 under bathroom design

The bathroom will be next to the kitchen and the connecting wall will surround the toilet, refrigerator and sink. From the kitchen it will look like the fridge is "sunk into" the wall leaving more counter space and so the fridge don’t stick out any. The bathroom will look like both the toilet and sink are also "sunk in" leaving more room for the tub/shower and storage closet. The space(wall) between will have a painting and lighting hung on it in the bathroom.Think of the wall as a Square W. Is this a good design or not? Want/need input before we start building.

I think it’s an excellent design. In older homes, it was common to alternate closets and fixed items like you plan on doing to create more floor space. In the newer homes, for some reason, there seems to be a lot of "wasted" space. I think it’s a well thought plan to get the most use out of the space you have. Good luck…remodeling is a lot of work but the end result is very satisfying!

My sister and I get to re-design a bathroom…?!?

Posted by admin on May 31, 2010 under bathroom design

The bathroom is in my basement. Should we make it cute and girly like we want to? Or should it match our beige basement?

It is possible to do a little bit of both!
You can always do fairly neutral tile and walls… and get some cute & girly art work, and accessories. That way it’s easier to change things if you get tired of it.
UNLESS $$ is no object, then go for it, and do the whole thingy girly… chandelier, metallic shimmer glass tiles, framed mirror, sconces…. etc.!

why can’t designers design an indestructible bathroom stall?

Posted by admin on May 28, 2010 under bathroom design

Every freakin one I go into has a wall coming loose a lock that doesn’t work….what the hexx are other people doing in there that makes them destroy the walls?

Think about the Titanic. It was unsinkable.

The lesson is that nothing is indestructible.

I think a more appropriate question would be, Why do people seem to feel it’s their duty to destroy bathroom stalls?

Confused with Bathroom Design?

Posted by admin on May 25, 2010 under bathroom design

I’ve discovered that it’s easier to remove my old bathroom components than replace them with updates.
After looking at all the different vanities out there, I’m more confused than ever.

My daughter wants a Vessel Vanity Top.
The old vanity was a "side wall" type that was 46" width.

It seems like the wider Vanities in the Vessel type are few and far between.
I’m confused, my bathroom is ripped apart and I don’t know what I’m doing. Where do I go to get help (free design help)? Home Depot doesn’t do that.
Wow. Style? Color Scheme? haha. I really don’t know. I need to give that some thought. These are really good points you’ve brought up. I will definately take you up on the offer. My bathroom is a 5′ x 9′ type of space. I got a Sterling smooth tub and tub surround (white) that is going in now. I’ve built/rebuilt the studs around it to house it. When I took off all the sheetrock, I found that termites had completely eaten away alot of the studs….GRRRR.
I’m down to concrete on the floor and am trying to select some tiles as well. But have found that the tile needs to go with the vanity. I bought a bathroom book, but sheesh, these bathroom book show things with such large spaces haha. I don’t have alot to work with.

I will look at these links you’ve sent me. I really appreciate it.

I would suggest getting a clear idea of the style and color scheme you want to use, and things should begin falling into place. Remember to keep everything proportional to the room size and use a variety of textures. You can always place a vessel sink on top of a wide counter to give you more space (as opposed to finding/buying a wide vanity, because, yes, they’re very rare)! P.S. If you would like to send me pictures of the space, I would love to give some suggestions.

Here are some galleries and tips to get you started. Good luck!

Where can I find a company that will make a chrome bathroom water fitting to a specific design?

Posted by admin on May 22, 2010 under bathroom design

Am in UK.

Thanks in Advance.

The cheapest way would probably be to get someone to machine up the part and then get another firm to plate it. It all depends on what the part is and what material it would need to be made out of. I often make small parts and have them plated by a friend in the industry who does not charge me – I help him with producing one offs for him when needed. Most plating companies will oblige if the part will fit on a flight bar and the material lends itself to plating. If you give me more information I may be able to give you specific advice/help.

Bathroom, Shower design, Open Shower, Wet room?

Posted by admin on May 19, 2010 under bathroom design

I saw an episode of MTV cribs one time with this model, dont know her name but she showed off her bathroom and I LOVED her shower. it was open, no shower doors or shower walls, just an open bathroom with alot of tile, a big mirror and a rolling (on the ceiling) shower curtain. I CANNOT find that episode online, and I AM DYING to use that bathroom design in my new house, if anyone knows the type of bathroom or shower design that it is, PLEASE give me your input. I also heard it might be called an open shower or a wet room, but I could not find any picture to correspond with the image in my head. THANKS!!!!

basically it is just part of the room , like you said.. no doors or anything , all you do is decide how large you want the shower area then have the drain placed in the floor in the middle of the wet area and have the tile installed , it works best if you make sure the tile is sloped slightly towards the drain while its being installed ..it only needs to be a few degrees to make the water run towards the drain area
if you want a shower curtain for a little privacy then just have a track installed on the ceiling , you can make it curved , or straight ..its all up to you
and if you place the shower heads in the right spots you should not get much water outside the area you want it in, be sure to use a tile that is designed for wet locations on the floor…they are made with a texture on the surface to keep them from being slippery when they get wet
